Scalp Massage – How to Do a Proper Scalp Massage

Scalp massage is literally the most effective, cheapest (it’s free!), and simple thing you can do to grow hair.

Scalp massage immediately increases blood flow and circulation to the scalp and the hair follicles, relieves stress and tension which can hinder your body’s ability to concentrate energy on hair growth, and removes excess sebum or dead skin that may be clogging your follicles. All of these benefits lead to the result you are looking for: they help to grow hair.

This means increased growth rate (faster hair growth? yes, please!), and healthier, stronger, thicker, shiner hair.scalp massage

  • But how do you do a proper scalp massage?
  • How long does it take?
  • Where do you start?

I’ll share my technique, with step by step scalp massage instructions – usually available only in my book – for free, right now.

HOW TO DO A PROPER SCALP MASSAGE

  • Start at the base of your neck, keep your fingers together and with your fingers and thumb of each hand, use light pressure and knead the muscles at the back of your neck, for about 30 seconds until you feel an “opening up” and relaxation.

  • Move your fingers slowly toward the crown of your head, making little circles as you go. These circles should not “scrub” the scalp (or rub against your hair). If you have the right amount of pressure, the scalp will move under your fingers with the circular motion, over your skull. As you do this, allow your hand to spread so that the thumbs stay just behind your ears as the fingers advance toward the crown. Relax and enjoy this process, don’t hurry – it should take a few minutes and you should start to feel a tingling.

  • You can press a bit harder now, as you move your thumbs in circles toward your temples, keeping the fingers squarely on the crown.

  • When your thumbs are on your temples, begin to move your fingertips over the top of your head, toward your hairline using the same circles. Take your time and massage all along your hairline, lifting your hair up, if need be, to get to your scalp. Remember, do not scrub your scalp, instead use the pads of your fingers and gentle pressure to move your scalp around in a circular motion.

  • Now put your head between your knees to increase the blood flow to your follicles, and use your fingertips to gently tug on your hair at the roots. This process is very gentle, just lifting your hair a bit – do not pull hard or be rough. When you have done this to the top, sides, and back, sit back up slowly and then rest for a minute.

  • Finally, plant the fingers firmly on the scalp with your thumbs at your temples, fingers splayed over the top of the head, and start a back-and-forth vibration of the scalp over the skull. Move your fingers over the back of your head, and finish off with a few seconds of kneading the back of your neck. Then quickly tap once all over your head with the very tips of your fingers so that the touch feels like gentle rain.

  • Smooth your index and middle fingers a couple of times over your forehead, from the center out, and then draw them over the eyebrows twice, to release any tension in the face.

Can you imagine looking into the mirror a few months from now and being amazed at how much healthier your hair looks? Getting compliments on your hair and fielding questions from friends on what your secret is because your hair is just growing like crazy?

Then you’ve come to the right place, because I will share my secrets with you. And scalp massage is just one of them! But it is one of the most important.

So am I really saying that all you have to do to grow the hair you want is to start massaging your scalp?

Well, yes and no.

If you were to make just this ONE change, to start regularly doing a scalp massage, then yes, I say this is the best change you could make and you WILL see results, without a doubt. Yes, I’m that confident.

But if you’re serious about growing your hair long, growing your hair fast, or regrowing hair that you’ve lost, then you need to read my book where I reveal everything I know in a step by step, easy to follow format that will leave you with a personalized plan for growing the absolute most beautiful hair you’ve ever had. Grow Long Hair Overnight

Grow Long Hair Overnight

So, you’re looking to grow long hair overnight. Right?

Well, waiting for your hair to grow can be very difficult to do. Human hair grows at an average rate of 1/4″ to 1/2″ per month. Some people’s hair may grow more slowly and others more quickly (lucky them!).

The honest truth – and the bad news – is that there really is no way to grow long hair overnight. You just can’t wake up as Rapunzel.

But the good news – yes, there IS good news! – is that you CAN treat your hair and scalp better in order to grow hair faster. While it won’t make you grow long hair overnight, it WILL make a noticeable difference in how quickly your hair grows.

The keys to knowing how to grow long hair fast are to treat your hair carefully, keep your body healthy, lower your stress, and keep your scalp healthy.

If you’re serious about wanting to grow long hair fast, then you need to read my E Book – you can read and download it immediately after purchase and it is 52 pages worth of tips, secrets and tricks to get your hair to grow faster.

Using Fenugreek (Methi) to combat hair loss and promote hair growth.

Fenugreek has long been used by Indian women (known for their beautiful, thick, long hair) as a natural Ayurvedic hair treatment to prevent dandruff and hair loss and to promote healthy hair growth.

Fenugreek, also known as methi, contains lecithin, which is an emulsifying substance. When soaked, the seeds produce a mucilage (a slippery substance which gives hair shine and slip). This quality makes fenugreek a natural conditioner.

Fenugreek for Hair

It is also a good source of protein, which is important in rebuilding and strengthening the hair shaft. The amount of protein in Fenugreek alone might explain it’s restorative ability on damaged or shedding hair.

Where to buy Fenugreek:

How to mix and apply Fenugreek to the hair:

  • You can either grind the seeds first and add to water, or you can mix the seeds with water and then grind into a paste.
  • Add boiling water to the seeds (I open up two teabags of Fenugreek tea, put the seeds in a mug and fill with about 4-8oz of boiling water), and let steep for a few hours.
  • When the seeds are “slimy” they are ready to be used. If you didn’t grind your seeds first, now is the time to mash them up into a paste. You can then apply this mixture to your scalp. Use any excess liquid as a rinse for your hair.
  • Wrap your head up in a shower cap or plastic bag or plastic wrap and let this mixture sit for anywhere from 20 minutes to a few hours, but remember that the mixture needs to stay moist or it will dry very hard and be difficult to rinse out.
  • If using Fenugreek liquid extract, simply apply to scalp and cover.
  • After leaving it on for your desired amount of time, rinse off with cool or tepid water. Rinse well to loosen any seeds or particles you may have. You can also brush these out when your hair dries.

You can also use the excess tea from making your Fenugreek paste in a mister bottle as a scalp tonic (just spray a bit on before bed).

Keep in mind:

Fenugreek is not to be used or ingested by pregnant women, as it can cause contractions and potentially induce preterm labor.

Fenugreek should not be used daily as a conditioner, as it may cause skin sensitivity or make the hair feel coated (if it does, use a clarifying shampoo). It is better suited for scalp treatments once per week or less often.

Fenugreek often leaves hair smelling of curry or maple syrup. When dry, the smell usually does not linger.

Natural Hair Loss Remedies

If you’re suffering from excessive shedding or hair loss, it can be devastating…especially when your goal is to grow long hair. The first step is to try some natural hair loss remedies, which may reduce your excessive shedding or hair fall.

Natural Hair Loss RemediesTypically a range of 25-100 hairs shed per day is considered normal, (but of course, this can vary) and when you are trying to grow long hair, you are probably very conscious of the amount of hair you are shedding or losing. Keep in mind, though, that as your hair gets longer, your shed hairs (for instance the hair caught in your shower drain after washing your hair) will look larger simply because each strand is longer, not necessarily because you are losing more hair.

Excessive shedding and hair loss is often a sign of an underlying medical condition (anemia, thyroid issues, hormonal issues, among plenty of others) so if you are experiencing a noticeable change in the amount of hair you are shedding on a regular basis, your first step should be to consult a doctor. Do not be dismissed by your doctor and be sure to have your concerns about your hair loss taken seriously – it is NOT a simply vain complaint, as your hair fall could very well be a symptom of a serious illness.

But barring any medical causes, hair loss can be increased by other factors, such as depression, stress (and excessive hair shedding usually peaks around three months after a particularly stressful event or time in your life), changes in diet (lack of protein, healthy fats, iron, or water), lack of sleep, or allergies to topical solutions.

The one sure truth about excessive hair fall and shedding? There is NO one quick fix or solution that works for everyone. The key here is to experiment and test until you find the natural hair loss remedies that work for you.

Here is a checklist of some natural hair loss remedies you can experiment with to reduce your shedding:

  • Switch to using ONLY cool/cold water on your hair and scalp – avoid hot water at all times
  • STOP using shampoos with SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) – many people are allergic to SLS and would never know it – if you have a dry, itchy, painful scalp after shampooing, this may be the relief you are looking for and will likely improve your hair fall problem (switch to shampoos that say “Sulfate Free” or that are soap or oil based)
  • Scalp massage is an incredibly important step in healthy hair growth and the stimulation of your follicles is sometimes all that is needed to stimulate hair growth where hair was previously lost. I also have a top secret tip that I share in my E Book, for those of you that really want to shoot your follicles into overdrive and get your hair growing fast.
  • Black Tea Rinses – using brewed black tea as a rinse over your hair and scalp or in a spray bottle spritzed daily onto your scalp
  • Scalp brushing
  • Hair vitamins (please consult your doctor before starting supplementation) such as biotin, MSM, saw palmetto, or a comprehensive hair health supplement like Hair Essentials for Hair Growth.

And here are some natural hair loss remedies where experimentation is essential, since for some people one solution works and for others the complete opposite is the solution.

  • Conditioner on the scalp
    • Some people find that using ONLY conditioner as a cleanser (COing method) and NOT using a shampoo works to combat shedding
    • While others find that keeping conditioner OFF of the scalp (conditioning only the length of hair) and cleansing with either an SLS-free shampoo, an oil or soap based shampoo, natural herbs, or tea rinses is the way to go
  • Oiling of the scalp
    • To learn more about oiling your scalp to promote hair growth, you can find step by step instructions in my E Book, as some people find that regular oiling of the scalp promotes new growth and reduces shedding
    • While others find that applying topical solutions to the scalp, including oils of any sort, make the shedding much worse – so these should be avoided
    • In this case, it’s a matter of testing to see what works for you and what doesn’t, and ruling out what may be causing your hair loss or shedding

If you’d like to know more, my E Book has chapters devoted to the causes of hair loss, and a step by step method to find the perfect hair care routine for your personal hair type. Not all hair loss is reversible, but if you’re experiencing excessive hair shedding or loss, it doesn’t hurt to try these natural hair loss remedies to get your hair back to growing long and fast.

Cleansing Hair with Conditioner Only Wash | CO-Washing Your Hair

Wondering what it means when you read about CO, or CO-washing your hair?

It means Conditioner Only, and it is a method of cleansing your hair in such a way as to retain and impart as much moisture as possible.

The truth is that you don’t need to wash your hair daily, and you don’t need to use harsh cleansers and surfactants (which most shampoos are made up of) to sufficiently clean your scalp and hair. In fact, daily washing with shampoos containing sulfates can be very drying and actually damage your hair. Another consideration – many people are actually allergic to sulfates, the cleansing ingredient in many shampoos, and don’t know it. If you have an itchy or sore scalp after a wash, or shedding unrelated to other causes, you may very well have an allergy to sulfates.

So what is CO-washing, who should do it, and how do you do it?

CO-washing is for people who have sensitive scalps and suspect an allergy to the sulfates in shampoo, for people with extremely dry and fragile hair, and for people who are looking to grow their hair long.

CO, Conditioner Only washing requires a lot of conditioner, so many people choose to use brands like Suave, White Rain, and VO5, because they are light, most of them are silicone free and they are inexpensive. You may like to use a thicker, richer conditioner for the ends of your hair and for a deep condition once per week in addition to your CO conditioner. You might also like to try the Wen haircare system, which uses a “cleansing conditioner”.

Here’s how to CO:

1. Wet your hair with cool to lukewarm water.

2. Apply a generous amount (a big handful) of a light, moisturizing conditioner to your scalp and work it in gently and down your length. Use more if necessary to ensure that all of your hair is coated, with your scalp being the most saturated. Let this sit for about five to ten minutes (go about your other shower duties while waiting).

3. Gently massage your scalp, and if you’d like, apply a thicker, richer conditioner to your ends at this time.

4. Rinse with cool water, gently pat hair dry.

The results of CO-washing will be a clean scalp and soft, moisturized hair.

Tip: You will probably want to wash with shampoo anywhere from once per week to once per month (or even less frequently) depending on the amount of buildup you experience, which varies with hair type and the conditioner you use. If you use a conditioner with silicones or a thicker conditioner you may experience buildup more quickly. If you do suspect a sulfate allergy, find a shampoo with no sulfates, such as Back to Basics, Aubrey Organics, Kiss My Face, or Organix.

Word to the wise: It will likely take your hair and scalp a bit of time (anywhere from two weeks to a month) to adjust to not being stripped by shampoo on a daily basis and adjust it’s production of sebum accordingly. Because of this you may experience “the greasies” or limp, flat hair, during this time. Then again, some people’s hair takes to CO-ing right away. But if you do experience some bad hair days during the first few weeks of trying CO-washing, I suggest you stick it out and give it a fair shot. Remember that up-do’s are protective, help to grow your hair long, look great, and hide the greasies well.

Wait…what else is there?

Cleansing Hair with Condition Wash Condition | CWC

When you want to grow your hair long, it’s often wise to consider alternative cleansing methods because long hair needs special care and the standard routine isn’t usually the best for it. CWC, or condition wash condition is one method you can try to keep your hair in better condition as you grow your hair long.

  1. Wet your hair with cool water and apply conditioner from your ears down (you can use an inexpensive conditioner for this step, if you like, I recommend Suave, VO5, or White Rain).
  2. Apply a gentle shampoo (I recommend a shampoo free of Sulfates, a good one is Kiss My Face Whenever or Aubrey Organics Island Natural) to your scalp and gently massage in. Your length (that still has conditioner on it) does not need shampoo, as the suds sliding down it during the rinse is enough to cleanse it.
  3. Rinse your hair, rinsing both shampoo and conditioner out.
  4. Apply conditioner a second time, from the ears down again, this time using a thicker, richer conditioner if you like (I recommend Biolage Condtioning Balm).

That’s it! It’s simple, doesn’t take any longer than a normal shampoo/condition routine, and is much gentler on your hair. Whether or not you are growing your hair long, this is a good routine to adopt if you’d like to treat your hair gently and keep it growing as naturally beautiful as it can.

Mega Tek For Hair Growth

A Secret to Fast Hair Growth: Mega Tek.

Mega Tek is a well known and trusted hair growth aid in the long hair community. People who are “in the know” about hair growth products, people who don’t fall for the hype or the powerful advertising, and people who take their hair care seriously – all turn to Mega Tek to help speed up their hair growth, to counteract and stop hair shedding, and to grow healthier, thicker, more beautiful hair.

Mega Tek for Hair Growth

What is Mega Tek?

Mega Tek is a product marketed for pets and horses. Yes, really. So why am I suggesting that you use it on your very own head?

Because Mega Tek is made by the same company that makes Ovation Cell Therapy. Basically, OCT and Mega Tek are the same product, and the company that produces them just has a very smart marketing team.

They realize that many people will balk at putting a product “made for horses” on their own hair, so they put that very same product in a different bottle with a fancy name and charge three times as much. And people buy it. You can, too.

But if you’re smart, you’ll head over to Amazon (or your local tack shop or specialty pet store) and pick up some Mega Tek for hair growth at a fraction of the price. And if you think you’re the only one buying this for your own hair, read some of these reviews:

I would highly recommend this product. my research seems to indicate that this product is the same as ovation cell therapy (just at half the price.) my hairdresser noticed improvement after i’d only been using it a couple weeks. i have a lot of new hair growth. be sure to condition after using this as the heavy amount of protein can dry the hair. i have thyroid disease & naturally fine hair – this product has helped with new growth & thickness/body.

Yes it is all true. It makes my hair thick, and strong. It also reduces beakage especially after braiding. I use this in conjuction with emu, castor, and eucalyptus oil.

This product is hair growth in a bottle. You will get a full inch and a 1/2 of hair the first month if you use it everyday. It was easy to use no residue. I loved this product I give it ten stars!!!

Grab your own bottle and find out for yourself!

Mega Tek VS. OCT or MegaTek VS. Ovation Cell Therapy

What are the ingredients in Mega Tek for hair growth?

Deionized Water, Stearalkonium Chloride, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, PEG-40 Castor Oil, Cetrimonium Chloride, Hydrolized Keratin, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, DM DM Hydantoin, Methlparaben, Propylparaben, Tetrasodium EDTA, Frangrance.

What are the ingredients in OCT?

Deionized Water, Stearalkonium Chloride, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, PEG-40 Castor Oil, Cetrimonium Chloride, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, DM DM Hydantoin, Methlparaben, Propylparaben, Tetrasodium EDTA, Frangrance

What does Mega Tek do for hair growth?

Many people see noticeable growth within weeks – days, even. Obviously this won’t be the case for everyone, but most people do notice a boost in growth within a few week’s time and over time report a boost in growth to as much as 1 inch per month or more.

Many users report not only faster growth, but also thicker growth and most report having soft, silky hair when using Mega Tek as a conditioner as well.

Users also report noticeable fingernail growth when rubbing it into their cuticles or simply from applying the Mega Tek to their scalps and getting some on their fingernails.

This is one of the ultimate hair growth secrets…you do NOT want to pass this one by!

How do I use Mega Tek for hair growth?

Mega Tek is a protein treatment, which is important to keep in mind. Some people’s hair is very protein sensitive, so you have to watch for build up – if this happens, your hair will get coarse and dry, and the fix is just to reduce applications of Mega Tek for a while, keep Mega Tek applications to scalp only, and to do plenty of moisturizing deep treatments (like the amazing one I send out to my newsletter).

If your hair likes protein, you don’t have to worry about this and can use Mega Tek liberally.

As a growth aid, Mega Tek should be applied directly to the scalp. You can do this a few ways:

  • Apply straight from the bottle to your scalp during scalp massage as you would any scalp oil
  • Mix Mega Tek and some distilled water in a hair color applicator bottle and shake to mix up, apply this mixture to your scalp with the applicator tip and then massage in

I recommend applying Mega Tek to your scalp in the evening during your nightly scalp massage and leaving in. In the morning you can wash it out during your normal routine, but I have found that even if I do not wash or even rinse my hair the next day, my hair has often just soaked up the Mega Tek and I’m left with silky, soft, manageable hair.

You can use nightly if you want, or if you notice some build up, cut back to every other night or just a few times per week. You’ll still see results.

For fastest hair growth results: apply Mega Tek to scalp nightly.

You can also use Mega Tek as a deep protein conditioning treatment, by applying to your hair and scalp and leaving in for an hour or so, then washing or rinsing out. I do not recommend leaving Mega Tek on the length of your hair overnight, as it tends to harden your hair as it dries (as protein treatments tend to do) and you can damage your hair in this condition.

What does Mega Tek look and smell like?

Mega Tek is thick, white and creamy, like a deep conditioner. It has a coconut smell which some people find overpowering and fake (I’m not a fan of it, to be honest) and others find very tropical and subtle. Even though I’m not fond of the scent, there’s worse things than smelling like a vacation, and I’ve tried many a growth aid that smelled a hundred times worse (trust me on that!).

How long does a bottle last?

Depending on how often you use and how much you use, your results may vary, but my method is to mix Mega Tek with water in a hair color bottle and apply nightly, and my Mega Tek bottle lasts me about six months. At that rate, and with the results it gives, it ends up being affordable and very worth it.

The verdict?

If you are serious about growing your hair long, are looking to grow your hair fast, or are looking to grow thicker, healthier hair, then Mega Tek is definitely something you should try.
